A native of Crimea, Mamut Belyalov, who studied at Kherson National Technical University, became the victim of another fabricated case by the Russian security services.
The publication “Fakty”, which interviewed the sister of the political prisoner Fadme Belyalova, reports this.
Mamut Belyalov was detained back in 2016 in Feodosia after the occupiers “found” a pistol during a search. He was accused not only of “preparing an assassination” of the so-called Minister of Resorts and Tourism of Crimea, Serhiy Strilets, but also of allegedly being an SBU agent. The man himself and his family insist: this is a complete fabrication, and the weapon was planted on him.
The political prisoner’s sister said that Belyalov was tortured for several days, forced to confess to “espionage” and “attempted assassination”. Initially, Russian security forces detained another man who they called an “SBU agent”, but he was later released and all the “blame” was shifted onto Mamut. According to Fadme, the lawyer appointed by the occupiers essentially acted in the interests of the prosecution and tried to persuade her brother to agree to the verdict.
A Russian court in Crimea found Mamut Belyalov guilty of “preparing a terrorist act” and “collaborating with Ukrainian special services” and sentenced him to 12 years in a maximum-security penal colony. After the verdict he was transferred to Rostov, then to a colony in Krasnodar Krai, and is now being held in the Simferopol pre-trial detention center. The family is seeking to have Belyalov included in the lists for exchanging Ukrainian political prisoners.
As a reminder, earlier we wrote that in the Kherson region the occupiers repressed 10 Crimean Tatars in one village.
