The UN Office in Ukraine condemned an attack by Russian forces on a humanitarian convoy in the Kherson region, calling it absolutely unacceptable.
DW reported this.
As the organization said, on October 14 an interagency convoy of four trucks was delivering aid to Bilozerka — a community that had not received support for several months.
Upon the humanitarian mission’s arrival, intense artillery fire began, and while workers were unloading the trucks, two of them — clearly marked with the emblems of the UN World Food Programme — became targets for FPV drones.
“Such attacks are absolutely unacceptable. Humanitarian workers are protected by international humanitarian law and must never be made the targets of attacks,” the UN emphasized.
The organization recalled that deliberately targeting humanitarian personnel and resources is a gross violation of international law and may be classified as a war crime.
The UN called for an immediate cessation of drone attacks on the civilian population of the Kherson region.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called the attack by a Russian drone on the UN humanitarian convoy in the Kherson region on October 14 a gross violation of international law.
