The Cabinet of Ministers dismissed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Anton Demyokhin. The official is the son of the former head of the Kherson Regional Council and former leader of the regional Party of Regions, Volodymyr Demyokhin.
This was reported by the Cabinet of Ministers’ representative in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Taras Melnychuk.
Demyokhin held the position of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for digital development, digital transformations and digitalization since 2022.
Recall, his father, Volodymyr Demyokhin, was a key figure in the political hierarchy of the Kherson region in the second half of the 2000s. For a long time he headed the regional organization of the Party of Regions. Despite being elected as a People’s Deputy of Ukraine on his party’s list, Demyokhin refused the mandate in the Verkhovna Rada.
From May 2006 to July 2010, Volodymyr Demyokhin held the position of chairman of the Kherson Regional Council of the 5th convocation. His entire tenure in this position was marked by political confrontation with the then head of the Kherson Regional State Administration, Borys Silenkov. This struggle for power and influence over regional resources became one of the most memorable chapters in the political history of the region during that period.
After the change of central government in 2010, Demyokhin left Kherson and moved to Kyiv.
In June he was appointed Head of the State Service of Export Control of Ukraine, where he worked for more than four years — until October 2014. For his public service he was awarded the Order of Merit, 3rd class.
Volodymyr Demyokhin died in February 2018 after a long illness.
