Russians tried to hide what Veronika Velmamedova, who was killed in the temporarily occupied part of the Kherson region, was actually doing, presenting her as a volunteer and a teacher. However, it later became known that she served in the occupation police.
This was reported by correspondents “IPC-South”.
After her death Russian propagandists claimed that Velmamedova allegedly came to the Kherson region in 2023 as part of the so-called pedagogical detachment and worked as a teacher in the village of Zaliznyi Port. In particular, on March 1, 2026 the occupation governor of the left bank of the Kherson region, Volodymyr Saldo, wrote on his Telegram channel that she decided to remain living in the region after the volunteer mission.
However, after the burial of the Russian woman it turned out that she served in an occupation police unit. On Russian social networks her acquaintances reported that Velmamedova did volunteer work for some time, but later moved to the Kherson region and joined the service in the structure of Russia’s Interior Ministry. A photograph showing her in a police uniform was also placed on her grave.
According to IPC-South, Velmamedova was killed during a strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the deployment site of employees of the so-called Holoprystansky MIA department, in the settlement of Lazurne.
Earlier it was reported that during the strike on the occupation police department Russian police officer Oleksiy Sazhin was killed.
