On April 8, at the age of 89, Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor of Kherson National Technical University, academician of the Ukrainian Technological Academy Valeriy Chugin died.

Valeriy Chugin began his career at Kherson National Technical University in 1970, when the educational institution was a branch of the Odesa Technological Institute. For several decades he worked in scientific areas of the textile industry.
From 1993 to 2000 Chugin headed the Department of “Weaving”. His scientific developments were applied in high-tech fields: protection systems for spacecraft, quiet propellers of frigates, and in the creation of bulletproof materials.
The scientific works of Valeriy Vitaliyovych have been published in England, the USA and Canada. His textbook “Mechanisms of Flat Weaving Technology”, recognized by World Book experts, is used in the curricula of the universities of Oxford and Cambridge.
The international recognition of the scientist’s achievements is confirmed by the Gold Medal of the American Biographical Institute (GOLD MEDAL of ABI), which is an honor for the whole of Ukraine.
Earlier it was reported that on March 31, 2026 the former chief physician of Kherson City Clinical Hospital No. 2 died at the age of 92 (now named after A. and O. Tropinykh), Honorary Citizen of Kherson Ivan Ilariionovych Pentilyuk.
