A pupil of the Kherson Children’s and Youth Sports School of Chess and Checkers, Pavlo Abalmaz, took second place at the Portuguese Championship in classical chess among boys under 12.

The competition took place from March 28 to April 1 in the city of São Pedro do Sul. At the end of the tournament, the young chess player scored 6 points out of 7 possible.
The athlete’s coach is Yevhen Novikov.
“Pavlo demonstrated confident play, strategic thinking and a true sporting character”, – noted in the post.
As a reminder, a tennis player from the Kherson region Yuliia Starodubtseva will play in the semifinal of a WTA series tournament for the first time in her career, where she advanced at the Charleston Open in the USA.
