In the Kherson region, a Russian serviceman who fought against Ukraine voluntarily surrendered to the Defense Forces.
This was reported by the SBU Department in Kherson Oblast.
The operation involved fighters from the 34th Separate Coastal Defense Brigade of the Marine Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Russian serviceman decided to surrender after he saw leaflets offering to spare his life.
The captive was Yevgeniy Nasedkin, born in 1987, a native of Tomsk, Russia. He served as a junior sergeant radio-telephone operator in the 24th Motor Rifle Regiment of the 70th Motor Rifle Division of the 18th Combined Arms Army of the Russian Federation.
According to Nasedkin, he joined the service in 2023 due to financial problems and court cases. During his service he twice left his unit without permission, after which he ended up in a penal unit.
The Russian serviceman said that commanders treated the “penal soldiers” cruelly: they beat them, sent them to combat positions without weapons, food, or medical assistance.
Despite orders to destroy the leaflets, he decided to take advantage of Ukraine’s offer under the «I Want to Live» program.
While carrying out the order to occupy positions in the area of the so-called islands, Nasedkin was at an observation post and voluntarily surrendered to Ukrainian soldiers.
According to the captive, the treatment by soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was normal – they fed him, gave him cigarettes and coffee. He also stated that the portrayal of Ukrainian soldiers – is propaganda.
