The SBU has notified in absentia of suspicion the propagandist of the pro-Russian media «Tavriya», Daniil Chernykh, who during the temporary occupation of Kherson Oblast carried out information activities in support of the aggressor state.
This is stated on the website of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, no later than September 7, 2022, Chernykh, while in Bilozertsi, worked as a correspondent for the pro-Russian TV channel «Tavriya» and cooperated with the occupation administration. He took part in preparing and creating a television piece about a political event organized by representatives of the occupation authorities.
Investigators determined that during the filming Chernykh voiced statements that contained signs of justification of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, as well as support for the occupation of part of the territory of Kherson Oblast and glorification of Russian military formations.
According to law enforcement, such actions were aimed at providing informational support to the aggressor state and influencing public opinion of the local population in the interests of the occupation authorities.
Daniil Chernykh is charged under Part 6 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — conducting information activities in cooperation with the aggressor state and its occupation administration aimed at supporting occupation bodies and armed formations, in the absence of signs of state treason.
It should be noted that Chernykh has education as a medic and a historian. He worked at a school as a teacher of history and social studies.
In March 2014 he took part in pro-Russian rallies and the seizure of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration. He supported the occupation of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
Later he began working as a freelance correspondent for the news agency «Novorossiya» in the occupied territory of Donetsk Oblast.
In 2022 he found himself in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson Oblast and got a job as a journalist at the illegally created occupation TV channel «Tavriya».
In the position of a so-called journalist he interviewed collaborators, including the illegal governor of Kherson region Volodymyr Saldo, the so-called deputy governor Tetyana Kuzmich, the occupation head of the Election Commission of Kherson Oblast Marina Zakharova, and others.
He has the medal “For Courage”. This happened after the Russians were evacuating employees of the “Tavriya” TV channel from Kherson. It was then that they were hit, inflicted on the crossing across the Dnipro, which was located near the Antonivskyi Bridge.
In February 2025 the Security Service of Ukraine in absentia announced to him suspicion under Part 6 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
