Izmail resident Mykola Iorgov was sentenced to 12 years for committing a terrorist attack in Novooleksiivka of Henichesk district in April 2016.
This is stated in the relevant court verdict.
As the investigation established, at the beginning of 2016 Mykola Iorgov was recruited by the organizer into a criminal group whose goal “was to incite interethnic enmity and provoke an armed conflict in southern Ukraine”.
To carry out the plan, Iorgov underwent special training in the Russian Federation. In February 2016 he flew from Simferopol to Murmansk (Russia), where for three weeks he was trained in making improvised explosive devices and demolition techniques.
To carry out the terrorist attack, accomplices bought a red VAZ-2101 car for $300. It was this car that Iorgov personally brought to Novooleksiivka. The man set a 12-hour timer on the explosive device, after which he left the booby-trapped car in a crowded place and fled to the Odesa region.
The explosion occurred on April 14, 2016 near the railway station – as a result one person died and six others were wounded. Significant damage was inflicted on the networks of «Укртелекому», «Укрпошти» та «Херсонобленерго».
Despite attempts to hide and resist SBU officers during investigative actions in May 2016, Mykola Iorgov was held accountable. The court found him guilty under part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
In addition to the 12-year prison sentence, the Izmail resident had all his property confiscated and was ordered to compensate moral damages to the victims (UAH 220,000) and state enterprises (UAH 50,000).
The term of serving the sentence for Iorgov will be calculated from the moment of his being taken into custody in January 2026, taking into account the time spent in pre-trial detention (SIZO).
The organizer himself was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment in December 20218.
