By the end of December 2025, 10 instances of abductions by Russians of people who lived in the Oleshky community were documented.
This is reported on the Oleshky MVA website.
In total, as of January 14, 2026, since the start of the full-scale invasion in the Kherson region, 1,979 cases of abduction or disappearance of people.
Among the abducted: mayors, heads of territorial communities, village starostas, the city council secretary, deputies of the regional and local councils, clergy and other residents of the region.
Ukraine’s Ombudsperson Dmytro Lubinets previously noted that thousands of civilians are held in Russian captivity. Far fewer have been verified through the Red Cross, but the real number may reach 25 000–30 000 people.
