Kherson City Court issued a verdict against a resident of the city of Henichesk, Valentyn Karlin, who took a job with the occupying law enforcement agency.
This is stated in the court ruling.
As the investigation established, in May 2022 the man voluntarily assumed the position of the so‑called acting police officer of the commandant platoon of the Henichesk district police department of the occupying Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kherson Oblast.
Already in June he agreed to the offer of representatives of the Russian security services and voluntarily assumed the position of the so‑called acting inspector of the patrol‑post service platoon, and currently holds the position of the so‑called escort unit officer of the convoy department of the occupying “Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation ‘Henichesk'”.
A witness questioned at the court hearing said he knows Karlin. Thus, at the end of summer – the beginning of autumn 2022 Karlin and another local resident stopped his car on one of the streets of Henichesk. They introduced themselves as employees of the patrol‑post service and made a remark that the witness was driving the car with the headlights off.
The witness noted that within the populated area it is permitted to drive with the parking lights on, to which he received the response: “…we are already in Russia, and you need to turn on the headlights”, and they also said that a protocol would be drawn up against the witness. After that the man asked them to identify themselves.
Karlin produced a police identification card of the Russian Federation model, which stated “patrol‑post service”. Both so‑called policemen were dressed in black uniforms with inscriptions on the back reading “Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia”, the witness said.
Having examined the evidence, the court in absentia found Valentyn Karlin guilty of collaborationist activity (part 7 of Article 111‑1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment with confiscation of all his property.
