The Southern District Military Court of the Russian Federation sentenced nine residents of the Kherson region to lengthy prison terms, accusing them of participating in a so-called terrorist community that allegedly operated under the leadership of the Security Service of Ukraine.
This was reported by pro-Russian Telegram channels.
The convicted allegedly planned attacks against the leadership of the occupying military-civilian administration.
In particular, Kostyantyn Reznik and Stanislav Kabakov were sentenced to 20 years in a maximum-security penal colony. Other defendants in the case were given prison sentences ranging from 14 to 18 years.
Recall that Kherson resident Kostyantyn Reznik was kidnapped by Russian invaders during the occupation of the city. The man was deprived of his freedom on July 21, 2022. On October 12, Kostyantyn Reznik’s family learned that he and other kidnapped Kherson residents who are implicated in this case had been transferred to Moscow, to Lefortovo (pre-trial detention center (FSIN SIZO No. 2 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia), – МОСТ). This pre-trial detention center in Russia is still referred to as an ‘FSB’ detention center, although in 2005 it was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, and in 2006 the Russian Federation legally prohibited the FSB from having its own pre-trial detention centers. But Russian human rights defenders and media outlets opposed to the Kremlin claim that in practice Lefortovo’s status as an ‘FSB detention center’ has not changed. They also note that this place of detention stands out among other similar facilities in Russia for its very poor and even inhumane conditions for the inmates held there.
