Kherson City Council deputy Illia Karamalikov was released from the Kryvyi Rih pre-trial detention center, where he had been held for almost 4 years.
His lawyer Mykhailo Velychko reported this on Facebook and the deputy’s son Artem confirmed it.
“Yes, we posted bail of a little more than 900 thousand hryvnias. About 30 people “pitched in” and we collected these funds”, – Artem Karamalikov told MOST.
Recall that earlier the court reduced the bail for the deputy several times. At the beginning of March last year he was allowed to be released from the SIZO on bail in the amount of 9 mln UAH, later it was reduced to 6 mln UAH, then to 4,5 mln UAH, 1,3 and finally to 900 thousand hryvnias, however Karamalikov did not pay the bail.
In September 2025 he appealed to MPs from Kherson region Serhii Kozyr, Pavlo Pavlish and Viktoriya Vagner, asking the three of them to give him money so he could get out of the SIZO.
According to the deputy’s lawyer, his client did not have the money to post bail.
On April 16, 2022 the SBU detained the deputy of the Kherson City Council Illia Karamalikov. He, together with his family, was trying to get to Odesa.
The Security Service of Ukraine officially confirmed information about the arrest of the Kherson deputy only on April 21.
In May 2025 it became known that the Kherson regional prosecutor’s office reduced the scope of charges against Karamalikov. Of the four episodes alleged against Karamalikov, three “fell away”.
According to lawyer Mykhailo Velychko, there is no evidence that the deputy handed pro-Ukrainian activists over to the Russians during the occupation of Kherson, distributed Russian “humanitarian aid”, housed Russian soldiers, or repaired their equipment.
Earlier we wrote in detail about Karamalikov’s case and filmed a video.
