The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted a law extending the validity period of weapons permits on the territory of the temporarily occupied Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
This was reported by Russia-controlled media.
Back in 2023, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed a law on the so‑called special procedure for the circulation of weapons in the occupied territories. The document obliged weapons owners to reissue their permits in accordance with Russian legislation by January 1, 2026. By the new decision this procedure has been extended until January 1, 2027.
It should be noted that in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region the occupation police and Russian servicemen often “confiscate” hunting weapons from local residents, citing the absence of appropriate documents. At the same time, obtaining Russian permits for the storage of weapons is possible only if one has a Russian passport.
Residents face a fine and criminal liability for illegal storage of weapons.
