The Kherson City Court handed down a verdict to 58-year-old Kherson resident Oleksandr Tolokonnikov, who during the occupation of the city worked on an illegal election commission for a pseudo-referendum and distributed propaganda newspapers.
This is stated in the court’s verdict.
According to the investigation, in September 2022 the man became a member of the election commission at a polling station that was organized in Kherson Gymnasium No. 1.
He issued ballots, checked the lists, and took part in organizing the voting in the so-called referendum on the joining of Kherson region to the Russian Federation.
In addition, during the occupation he received from representatives of the Russian authorities and distributed to city residents the newspapers “Naddnepryanskaya Pravda” with materials that justified Russia’s armed aggression and legitimized the occupation.
In October last year Tolokonnikov was detained by Ukrainian law enforcement and was charged; on November 18 this year he admitted his guilt and reached a plea agreement with the prosecutor.
The court approved the agreement and sentenced him to 3 years in prison with a ten-year ban on engaging in activities related to elections or referendums. He must also pay over 13 thousand hryvnias for the examination conducted.
