A Colonel-General of the Russian National Guard has been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for conducting aggressive military actions in the Kherson region.
This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the commander of the “South” grouping of forces directly took part in the capture of the Kherson region. It was established that at least 30 military formations of various levels were under his command.
From February to July 2022, servicemen of the Russian National Guard under his command, together with other units of the Russian Armed Forces, enforced the occupation regime in the settlements of the region. As a result, civilians in the oblast were killed and wounded, including children.
“Under the leadership of the convicted officer, servicemen of the Russian National Guard took part in forceful dispersals of peaceful protest actions on the territory of the Kherson region. They treated unarmed protesters with particular brutality, depriving them of their liberty. They also provided and continue to provide a regime of illegal detention of civilians in places of confinement, which is accompanied by torture and killings,” the post reads.
The convicted also coordinated the establishment of checkpoints and organized filtration measures. During these, inspections were carried out, vehicles were seized, personal searches conducted, and citizens illegally detained.
Earlier we wrote that an in absentia verdict for organizing the occupation of the Kherson region was given to Russian Major General Mykhailo Kalupin.
