A 60-year-old resident of the Kherson region has been found guilty of collaborationist activity. The court sentenced him to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. In addition, for 15 years he is prohibited from holding positions in state authorities and local self-government, law enforcement agencies and structures that provide public services.
The press service of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office reports this.
The investigation established that in May 2022, during the temporary occupation of Kherson, the man voluntarily agreed to assume the position of «head of the signaling and communications division» at the enterprise «Kherson Railway» created by the occupying authorities.
In fact, from the very first days he began to build the unit’s work according to the rules of the aggressor state. One day the convict arrived at the enterprise premises, took from the guard the keys to all the buildings and told employees that from now on he was in charge of the institution. Later he personally persuaded employees to transfer to service in the occupying structure, promising high wages.
Having taken the leadership position, the man formed the staffing of the illegal unit, organized an inventory of property and controlled the use of the material and technical base. Under his leadership, works were carried out to restore sections of fiber-optic lines and communications systems, which enabled the occupiers to launch railway connections between the occupied part of the Kherson region, the territory of the Russian Federation and annexed Crimea.
After the de-occupation of Kherson it was discovered that he had stolen the enterprise’s equipment and vehicles. Part of the property was handed over for use to other occupation units, another — was taken to the temporarily occupied territory of the region.
The sentence was handed down in absentia. The term of serving the sentence will be calculated from the moment of the convict’s actual arrest.
Recall, Natalia Snigur, a resident of Tarasivka in the Kherson region, was notified of suspicion of voluntarily choosing to join illegal authorities created by Russian occupiers in the temporarily occupied territory of the Oleshky district.
