A Kherson resident who collaborated with the Russians during the occupation was sentenced in absentia to up to 14 years in prison.
This is stated in the verdict of the Kherson City Court.
According to the case materials, in March–May 2022 the man voluntarily took a position in an illegal law enforcement body created by the Russian occupation authorities on the territory of Kherson Oblast. It concerns the so-called “GUMVD for Kherson Oblast”. Through his actions he aided the consolidation of the occupation regime and harmed the sovereignty of Ukraine.
The case was heard in special judicial proceedings in the absence of the accused, who is evading justice.
The court found the man guilty of collaborationist activity and sentenced him to 14 years in prison. The convicted person was also deprived of the right to hold positions in state authorities and local self-government for 12 years. No confiscation of property was applied.
The verdict was delivered in absentia. The term of serving the sentence will begin from the moment of the convict’s detention.
