Ukraine has managed to bring home another five children aged 4 to 15 who were deported to the Russian Federation or were in temporarily occupied territories.
The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets reported on the next stage of the President’s Bring Kids Back UA initiative.
Most of the children rescued this time were victims of forced deportation from Kherson during the occupation of the city.
Thus, a seven-year-old boy was taken from the Kherson children’s home during the withdrawal of Russian troops. Throughout this time his mother fought to bring her son back.
A brother and sister aged 4 and 6 were abducted by the occupiers from the same children’s institution. The mother had not seen the children for four years.
The return took place with the participation of the Office of the Ombudsman and the NGO «Save Ukraine». Humanitarian support from U.S. First Lady Melania Trump in matters of returning Ukrainian children was also noted.
In total, since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 1985 children have been returned.
