More than 300 civilian residents of occupied Oleshky could have died from hunger, cold and shelling since the autumn of 2025.
That number was recorded by volunteer Kseniya Arkhipova, Radio Svoboda reports.
According to her, the city is experiencing a chronic shortage of food, and people are often caught in shelling while standing in nighttime queues for humanitarian aid.
The head of the Oleshky city military administration, Tetyana Hasanenko, confirmed the information.
As Hasanenko points out, due to the lack of money flour is sold by the glass at high prices, and it is almost impossible to receive social payments from the occupiers, since to apply for them one must travel the dangerous road to Skadovsk.
There have also been cases in the city where the bodies of people who died from hunger or frostbite remain in apartments for months, because there is no one to collect and bury them.
“I have an appeal from a woman whose acquaintances went to inspect her apartment, which miraculously survived until now. It turned out that since winter the body of a woman has been lying there, who most likely froze or died of hunger. It is clear that the body is already in such a condition that it needs to be taken away immediately, but there is simply no one to do it,” – said Tetyana Hasanenko.
Earlier ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets reported progress in talks on rescuing residents of Oleshky and surrounding villages.
Earlier it was reported that the International Committee of the Red Cross announced its readiness to assist in taking necessary measures to organize the departure of civilians from temporarily occupied Oleshky in the Kherson region.
The local illegal authorities do not acknowledge that there are serious humanitarian problems in the city, and claim that there are no evacuation measures for the population there.
