The court found a Russian serviceman guilty of shooting at a civilian vessel in Hola Prystan in the Kherson region and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
This was reported on the website of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
According to the investigation, on November 1, 2022, an occupier opened fire with an automatic weapon at the civilian tug «Rydsa» with passengers on board while it was mooring. As a result of the shelling, the 36-year-old captain of the vessel suffered a fatal head wound.
After the act, Russian forces tried to conceal the crime and spread false information about an alleged shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The soldier’s actions were classified under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder.
Note that Sevastopol native Oleksandr Balyshyev was notified of suspicion of collaborationist activity for working in the occupation administration in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region.
