At Kherson State University, they plan to create five faculties instead of eight.
This was announced yesterday during a rectorate meeting by First Vice-Rector Serhiy Omelchuk.
No details were published on the university’s website, tersely stating that Omelchuk “presented a scenario for the transformation of faculties and departments that was developed by a working group”.
As a result of a secret vote, 93% of the rectorate members supported the proposed model.
“The emphasis is on retaining academic staff, on strengths – digitalization, international and scientific activity, and quality educational content. Under no circumstances is this about reductions. On the contrary – support for everyone and everything for the sake of development”, – the Kherson State University website reported.
According to a MOST source from two members of the rectorate, the faculties will be merged as follows.
On the basis of the two faculties, the Biological and Geographical Faculty and the Faculty of Computer Science, Physics and Mathematics, one STEM faculty will be created.
The Medical Faculty will be merged with the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport. It will be called the Faculty of Health and Sport. It will most likely be headed by Ivan Hlukhov.
The new Faculty of Education, Psychology and Social Work will include the Pedagogical Faculty and the Faculty of Psychology, History and Sociology. It will, apparently, be headed by the rector’s wife Lyubov Petukhova, and Iryna Shaposhnikova will become her deputy.
Two other faculties will not be affected by the changes. The Faculties of Business and Law as well as the Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology, Journalism and Arts were reformed earlier.
Recall that Kherson State University relocated to Ivano-Frankivsk in 2022 and is trying to establish operations there.
