A Kyiv court has ruled to extend the preventive measure in the form of detention for Stanislav Stashevskyi, who participated in hostilities in the Kherson region and launched drones at Kherson.

According to Ukrainian investigators, after the occupation of the peninsula the person in question moved to Crimea, where he obtained a Russian passport. On March 29, 2024 he signed a three-year contract with the Russian army and took part in hostilities in the Kherson region.
Initially Stashevskyi served as an intelligence scout, and from November 2024 held the position of drone operator. In October 2025 Ukrainian law enforcement informed him of suspicion of state treason and declared him wanted. According to the SBU, he launched Russian strike drones directly at Kherson.
In the courtroom Stashevskyi told journalists that he hopes to be included on lists for exchange. He spoke about his background: he was born in Russia, in childhood moved with his parents to the Sumy region and later obtained Ukrainian citizenship, and on January 30, 2023 he acquired a Russian passport. The explanations about why, after participating in hostilities against Ukraine, he went to the Republic of Lithuania are confusing — the defendant claims that he left while on leave as a serviceman of the Russian Federation.
“I asked for asylum from Ukraine and Russia. The Migration Department of Lithuania arrested me. They said that I am a threat to Lithuania’s national security. I told them everything honestly and they initially gave it to me, I was waiting for the documents that I was supposed to receive in January 2026,” Stashevskyi said.
According to the Security Service of Ukraine, in November 2025 the combatant fled from firing positions, after which he tried to leave for the EU as a Ukrainian refugee using his Ukrainian passport to “lie low.” However, Lithuanian law enforcement exposed him at the border and handed him over to the Ukrainian side for prosecution.
Stashevskyi now faces punishment in the form of life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
