Ukraine has imposed sanctions against the so-called Kherson branch of the Russian Union of Journalists.
The relevant decree was signed by Volodymyr Zelensky.
The restrictions also apply to the Union of Journalists of Russia and its subdivisions in the temporarily occupied territories, in particular in Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
It should be noted that the so-called Kherson branch of the Russian Union of Journalists was created by the occupiers in 2022. In 2023, to its composition joined twelve supporters of the illegal authorities of the Kherson region.
In 2024 the branch was headed by a former Kherson journalist, and now collaborator — Yevhen Brykov.
In May of this year the Union of Journalists of Russia was expelled from the International Federation of Journalists because of activities in the occupied territories.
