Ukraine called on the United Nations and international partners to increase pressure on Russia to create humanitarian corridors and evacuate civilians from temporarily occupied settlements on the left bank of the Kherson region.
This was stated during a briefing by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tykhyi, Ukrinform reports.
According to him, on May 19 the Ukrainian side informed member states at the UN Security Council meeting about the critical deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Oleshky, Hola Prystan, Stara and Nova Zburivka.
“There are practically no adequate conditions to meet the basic needs of local residents there, including children”, — Tykhyi said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that Russian forces are artificially blocking people’s departure from these settlements and obstructing the delivery of food, medicines and essential goods. At the same time, critical infrastructure in the areas is effectively destroyed, and electricity and gas supply are absent.
Ukraine called on the UN Secretary-General and international partners to influence Russia to ensure compliance with international humanitarian law and to create safe conditions for the evacuation of civilians, the statement said.
Note that, according to official data, more than 6,000 residents of the occupied part of Kherson region may need humanitarian assistance, including about 200 children. Most of them are people with limited mobility.
It was previously reported that the International Committee of the Red Cross said it was ready to assist in taking the necessary measures to organize the evacuation of civilians from temporarily occupied Oleshky.
Despite this, the local illegal authorities do not acknowledge that there are serious humanitarian problems in the city, and claim that there are no evacuation measures for the population there.
