A mini-exhibition «TSE*arabesques» has opened at the Zaporizhzhia City Gallery. The exhibition combines contemporary works by young artists with a historical study of the architectural face of occupied Nova Kakhovka.
This was reported on the page of the Zaporizhzhia Center for Contemporary Art.
The exhibition is based on original cement panels created by Zaporizhzhia participants as a contemporary reflection on the legacy of artist Hryhoriy Dovzhenko. The creative works are complemented by documentary materials from the project «Occupied Heritage of Nova Kakhovka».
The exhibition, held at Central Boulevard, 3, will run until February 27 inclusive.
The initiative was carried out with the support of British Council Ukraine and the President of Ukraine’s Fund in partnership with the scientific and cultural societies of Zaporizhzhia and Nova Kakhovka, combining the preservation of memory about cultural objects in occupied territories with contemporary artistic action.
In Nova Kakhovka, over 180 houses are decorated with stone vyshyvankas. The patterns do not repeat even within a single building. The ornaments were created by a group of monumental painters led by Hryhoriy Dovzhenko in the 1950s of the 20th century.
