In the Korabel microdistrict, Antonivtsi and Sadove, children do not live.
This was reported in an interview with MOST by the head of the Kherson City Military Administration, Yaroslav Shanko.
According to him, mostly elderly people remain in these areas. In Antonivtsi there are currently slightly more than 20 people, in Sadove – up to 20, in the Korabel microdistrict – over 200 people.
At the same time, in Kherson itself, according to MVA estimates, about 5 thousand children remain – this is approximately 12% of the city’s total population. Shanko admits that for a city that is in an active combat zone, this is a lot.
The head of the MVA explained that there is currently no mechanism for the forced relocation of the adult population. Such a decision can be made only at the highest state level, since forced eviction without legislative changes is a violation of human rights.
Therefore, city and regional authorities are relying on voluntary evacuation. Officials travel to dangerous areas, meet with people and persuade them to leave frontline territories. People are offered temporary accommodation in Kherson, the region or other regions of Ukraine, and for families with children in some cases – the possibility of settlement in separate housing with the support of charitable foundations.
According to Shanko, there are successful cases when families agreed to relocate, however it also happens that after evacuation people return.
Recall that recently in the Kherson community two transit centers for evacuated residents began operating . There they are provided with assistance from the first hours after evacuation. People are supplied with essential items, advised on receiving financial assistance, after which further evacuation to safe communities in the region or to other regions of Ukraine is organized.
