In February 2026 in Kherson, 63 cases of exceedances of the maximum permissible concentrations of nitrogen dioxide and 20 of phenol were recorded. The increase in pollution levels is linked to active combat operations.
This was reported by the press service of the Kherson Regional Hydrometeorological Center.
According to the Laboratory for Atmospheric Air Pollution Monitoring, during February 924 air samples were taken and analyzed at three stationary posts (excluding analyses for heavy metals). The city monitored the content of eight pollutants: dust, sulfur dioxide, soluble sulfates, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and nitrogen oxide, phenol, and formaldehyde.
Average daily concentrations exceeded the maximum permissible limits for several indicators. In particular, nitrogen dioxide exceeded the norm by 3,31–6,38 times, nitrogen oxide — by 1,17–3,08 times, phenol — by 1,13–2,50 times.
Overall in February, 63 instances of exceedances of the maximum single allowable concentrations for nitrogen dioxide and 20 for phenol were recorded. The recurrence of exceedances was 41,4% for nitrogen dioxide and 13,2% for phenol.
