Copenhagen will name a street after Kherson. The capital of Denmark will officially assign one of the new streets the name Khersongade (Hersongade).
This was reported by the head of the public organization «Hjælp Ukrainske Børn – Help Ukrainian Children» Lesia Ihnatik-Eriksen.
The decision was made by Copenhagen’s climate-technical and environmental committee. Because the new district has a pronounced maritime character, Ukrainian port cities were chosen for the names.
In addition to the Kherson one, the Danish capital will have the streets Ukrainagade (Ukraine Street), Kyivgade (Kyiv Street), Mariupolgade (Mariupol Street), Sevastopolgade (Sevastopol Street), Mykolaivgade (Mykolaiv Street) and Odesagade (Odesa Street).
The proposals for the names were prepared by the Ukrainian community together with the Danish-Ukrainian Association. Special emphasis was placed on cities that are symbols of resistance. In particular, human rights defenders insisted on including Mariupol as a symbol of tragedy and heroism.
