At the Kherson Regional Museum of Local History, a red-eared slider laid eggs for the first time in seven years. The reptile has lived in the aquarium of the institution’s main building for about twenty years.
This was reported on the museum’s page.

The animal, of American origin, was found in the Dnipro River and brought to the museum by staff member Anton Hromov in the early 2000s. Despite a long pause in reproductive activity, on the eve of Easter 2026 the reptile made a new clutch.
Museum scientists note that the appearance of offspring in aquarium conditions is unlikely due to the absence of the necessary natural environment for incubation. At the same time, they call the very fact of the resumption of the egg-laying cycle at the institution a symbolic event.
