Law enforcement officers detained an active service member who, during the occupation of Kherson, worked in an illegal detention facility, and after the city’s liberation was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine and later deserted.
The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense of the Southern Region reported this.
According to the investigation, in 2022 the man took the position of junior inspector of the 2nd category in the so-called Pre-trial Detention Center No. 1, which the occupiers established on the basis of the Kherson pre-trial detention center.
For working for the occupiers the man received about 40 thousand Russian rubles per month. His duties included monitoring compliance with the regime established by the occupiers and ensuring the operation of the illegal institution.
After the de-occupation of Kherson he decided to hide his past and joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
However, already in February 2025 he left the military unit without authorization and was hiding at his place of residence, where he was detained.
The court has already chosen a preventive measure for the suspect — detention without the right to post bail.
He has been notified of suspicion under Part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (collaborationist activity).
He may face imprisonment for up to 15 years.
