In Kherson, a local resident was detained who, during the occupation of the city, worked at a prison controlled by Russian forces.
This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Kherson Oblast.
According to the SBU, after the city was captured the man voluntarily began cooperating with the occupation administration and became a checkpoint inspector. He was issued weapons, a Russian uniform, and documents that allowed him to pass through checkpoints.
The man patrolled the prison grounds where people suspected of resisting the occupation were brought, and also stood guard on the tower and monitored the area.
After Kherson was liberated he stayed at home and did not publicize his past.
In April of this year he tried to join the local law enforcement agency without disclosing his cooperation with the occupiers. The man was detained while submitting documents.
He has been notified of suspicion of collaborationist activity (part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The article’s penalty provides for up to 15 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property. The investigation is ongoing.
