In March 2026, 51 cases of exceedances of the maximum permissible concentrations (MPC) of pollutants in the air were recorded in Kherson. The increase in pollution levels is associated with active hostilities.
This was reported by the press service of the Kherson Regional Center for Hydrometeorology.
According to the observations laboratory, during the month 1,011 air samples were collected and analyzed at three stationary posts (excluding heavy metals). The city’s analyses examined the content of eight impurities, including dust, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, phenol and formaldehyde.
Exceedances of daily average concentrations were recorded for three indicators: nitrogen dioxide — 1.84–5.46 times above the norm; nitrogen oxide — 1.08–2.06 times; phenol — 1.04–2.39 times (on certain days).
Most exceedances related to nitrogen dioxide — 37 cases. Exceedances for phenol were recorded 14 times. The recurrence of exceedances was 22.3% for nitrogen dioxide and 8.4% for phenol.
The hydrometeorological center notes that compared with February, nitrogen dioxide levels increased in March, while phenol levels decreased.
Recall that in February 2026 in Kherson recorded 63 cases of exceedances of the maximum permissible concentrations of nitrogen dioxide and 20 — of phenol.
