As part of the “Obiimy” project, a training titled “Responsible Parenting” took place for foster parents who chose one of the alternative forms of family care. The event was held simultaneously in four cities of Ukraine — Odesa, Dnipro, Mykolaiv and Sumy.
This was reported in the press release of the “Obiimy” project.
The aim of the training was to strengthen parental competencies and provide support to adults who raise children, including adolescents. Participants worked on understanding the age-specific characteristics of teenagers, analyzed the typical challenges of this period, and mastered tools for building effective and trusting communication with children.

During the training, foster parents, together with the trainers, examined practical cases that arise in daily life, learned to better recognize children’s emotional states and to find constructive ways to respond to challenging behavior.
A separate module of the training was devoted to the emotional state of the parents themselves. Participants were introduced to self-regulation techniques, restoration of internal resources, and prevention of emotional burnout — important components for ensuring a stable and safe environment for the child.

“Support for foster parents is the key to stability for children. When adults have knowledge, tools and space for recovery, they can build more trusting relationships with children and respond better to the challenges of adolescence,” says the coordinator of the training component of the “Obiimy” project, Solomiya Kamad.
The organizers emphasize that the development of parental competencies is an important step in creating a safe, supportive environment for children who need special attention and care.
The “Response to Crisis in Ukraine” project is implemented by the Ukrainian Education Platform with the support of the International Rescue Committee.
