The Kherson City Court found a Russian serviceman – Ruslan Alimkhanov guilty of cruel treatment of civilians during the occupation of Kherson in 2022. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The verdict was published on the website of the Unified State Register of Court Decisions.
Ruslan Alimkhanov, a native and resident of Volgograd, Russia, was a rifleman in a special-purpose company of the 143rd Special-Purpose Regiment of the 50th Separate Special-Purpose Brigade of the Federal National Guard Troops Service of the Russian Federation.
The investigation established that Alimkhanov, from the beginning of March until the end of October 2022, served as a convoy guard and abused civilian prisoners in the torture chamber in Kherson at 3 Teploenerhetykiv Street. There is the premises of Temporary Detention Facility No. 1, which Russian servicemen seized at the beginning of the city’s occupation.
Alimkhanov was convicted for three incidents, namely:
- the unlawful detention of a man whom the occupiers detained in the area of Korabelna Square in Kherson. The victim was held in captivity without any procedural documents being drawn up;
- the detention of a man arrested at a checkpoint near Bread Factory No. 3 on Illia Kulyk Street in Kherson. He was released only on July 15, 2022;
- the abduction from his own home on July 21, 2022, and the detention of a civilian. The detainee was also released without any explanation for the reasons for his detention.
The court in absentia found Ruslan Alimkhanov guilty under part 2 of Article 28, part 1 of Article 438, part 2 of Article 28, part 5 of Article 27, part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
He was also ordered to pay expenses in the amount of 24506,64 UAH for engaging an expert.
Recall, the National Police of Ukraine notified Ruslan Alimkhanov of suspicion in March 2024.
