The Kherson Court of Appeal has increased the sentence of Yuliya Sypko – a deputy of the occupying Kherson Regional Duma and the former programming director of the TV and radio company “Tavriya” created by the Russians.
This was stated in the relevant court verdict.
Earlier, the Kherson City Court found Sypko guilty under Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (collaborationist activity) and Part 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (justifying the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine).
She was sentenced to 10 years in prison with a 15-year ban on holding positions in government bodies and working in the media sector. However, at that time the court did not apply confiscation of property.
The court has now satisfied the prosecutor’s appeal and additionally ordered the confiscation of all her property.
The decision notes that she received a salary as a journalist of the occupying TRC “Tavriya”, and after being elected to the illegal Kherson Regional Duma she obtained a status that provided material support and other privileges.
Recall, before the full-scale invasion Yuliya Sypko worked as the head of the laboratory for improving the training of personnel of the civil service and local self-government at the Kherson Regional Center for Retraining and Advanced Training. After the occupation of Kherson region she became the programming director of the Russian-created propaganda TRC “Tavriya”.
In 2023 Sypko was included on the list of candidates from the “United Russia” party in the illegal elections to the occupying Kherson Regional Duma. As a result, the woman received a “deputy mandate” and is now a deputy of the occupying Kherson Regional Duma, and is a member of the illegal committee on national policy, issues of non-profit organizations and interregional relations.
