The Russian major general who received a sentence in absentia for organizing the occupation of Kherson Oblast turned out to be Mykhailo Kalupin.
This is evidenced by data from the Judiciary website.
Kalupin was found guilty of conducting aggressive military actions (Part 2 Art. 28, Part 2 Art. 437 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced in absentia to 15 years of imprisonment.
As stated in the court verdict, Kalupin directly commanded Russian military formations that, since February 24, 2022, occupied the territory of Kherson Oblast, managed the enforcement of the checkpoint regime at 13 checkpoints, controlled the retention of the seized “Kakhovka HPP”, and provided security for representatives of the occupation authorities,
In addition, due to aggressive military actions by Russian military units commanded by Kalupin, more than 2,000 people died in Kherson Oblast, including women and children.
Recall, according to the SBU, Kalupin was also involved in the violent suppression of peaceful protests in Kherson, the detention and illegal detention of civilians.
At that time, the Russians used stun grenades and tear gas against participants in the resistance. The occupiers also beat peaceful Ukrainians with rubber batons, and some of the injured sustained gunshot wounds.
