The detained camera operator of the Russian TV channel “Tavriya” in the Kherson region turned out to be a Russian, Dmytro Volkov.
Sources at the regional Institute of Mass Information told MOST about this.
Before the full-scale war, Volkov worked as a cameraman at one of the local TV channels and expressed pro-Russian views. The man called Ukrainians “Banderites”, advocated for the protection of the rights of Russian-speaking people, and after the occupation of Kherson began cooperating with the Russians.
It should be recalled that, according to the investigation, in July 2022 the man was employed by the illegally established by the occupiers State Unitary Enterprise “Kherson Regional Television and Radio Company “Tavriya”. There he took part in preparing propagandistic stories aimed at justifying the Russian occupation and spreading distorted information about the situation in the region.
For these actions, he was notified of suspicion under part 5 of art. 27, part 6 of art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – collaborationist activity. The court imposed a preventive measure on Volkov in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail of more than 266 thousand hryvnias.
TRC “Tavriya” – a Russian propaganda television and radio company, created in 2022 by Oleksandr Malkevich in occupied Kherson on the basis of the seized premises of “Suspilne”. This was also aided by the “governor” of the TOT Kherson region Volodymyr Saldo and the occupation official and former journalist Yevhen Brykov.
On the eve of the de-occupation of Kherson, the “Tavriya” staff stole equipment and left for Henichesk, where it continues to operate to this day.
Earlier, the SBU in absentia announced suspicion against “Tavriya” propagandist Danyil Chernykh, who during the temporary occupation of Kherson Oblast carried out information activities in support of the aggressor state.
