When the Russians blew up the Kakhovka HPP in June 2023, Ukrposhta employees became the only ones who delivered pensions and food to elderly people in the flooded areas by boat.
This was said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine by the company’s CEO Ihor Smilianskyi.
“When they blew up the Kakhovka dam, our women and men rented boats and they were the only ones who reached the grandmothers with food and pensions, and the Russians attacked them with drones,” Smilianskyi said.
As a reminder, the dam of the Kakhovka HPP, which was located near the now-occupied city of Nova Kakhovka in the Kherson region, was destroyed on June 6, 2023. On June 18 the Kakhovka Reservoir had effectively ceased to exist.
As a result of the detonation, almost 10 thousand hectares of wetlands of international importance were destroyed.
