A pupil of the Kherson Children and Youth Sports School of Chess and Checkers, Pavlo Abalmaz, successfully performed at the prestigious international tournament XVI Torneo de Reyes 2026, which was held on January 2–3 in the city of Samara (Spain).

In the blitz tournament the Kherson native scored 5 points out of 9 possible, took 35th place among 96 participants, and improved his international rating by 62 points.
In the rapid chess competition Pavlo scored 5 points out of 8, took first place among boys under 14, and added another 57 points to his international rating.
In addition, in the rapid chess tournament Pavlo drew with an International Master and a FIDE Master.
Pavlo is coached by Yevhen Novikov.
Earlier we wrote that Pavlo took part in the tournament in memory of Daniel Narodytsky, which was held in the Portuguese city of Porto. There he scored 6.5 points, took second place and added 85 FIDE rating points.
