The Security Service uncovered another collaborator who conducted a pseudo-referendum of the Russian Federation during the occupation of the right-bank of the Kherson region.
This was reported by the SBU Directorate in Kherson Oblast.
According to the investigation, the 46-year-old man, immediately after the takeover of the community, began collaborating with the Russian Federation and joined the ranks of the occupying «election commission № 809» .
In September 2022, the suspect, together with accomplices, carried out a door-to-door canvass of residents of one of the villages in Beryslav district.
Accompanied by Russian military personnel, they campaigned to fellow villagers to support the so-called joining of Kherson region to the Russian Federation.
The collaborators handed out «ballots» to people and then falsified votes in favor of Russia.
After the liberation of the region’s right bank, the suspect fled to Kherson, where he hid from justice in the basement of a private house owned by his relatives.
SBU officers located the man and informed him of suspicion of collaborationist activity (Part 2 of Art. 28, Part 5 of Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The detainee is currently in custody. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
