The Security Service of Ukraine detained in Kherson an agent of the Russian special services who directed fire at bases and combat positions of the Defense Forces.
The SBU press service reported this.
According to the investigation, the detainee is a native of the South Caucasus who had lived in Ukraine since the 1990s using a forged passport. To cover his activities, the man headed one of the local civic organizations.
The suspect came to the attention of the Russian special services during the temporary occupation of Kherson because of personal ties with the family of an FSB officer. After the city’s liberation, the agent was left on the de-occupied territory in “standby mode.” Later a temporary FSB operational group from the left bank of Kherson region re-established contact with him and tasked him with monitoring the locations of Ukrainian military forces to prepare new strikes.
To collect data, the man elicited information from acquaintances and independently conducted reconnaissance near potential targets. During searches of the detainee’s residence, forged documents and mobile phones containing evidence of communication with his handler were seized.
SBU investigators informed the suspect of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized dissemination of information about the movement or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during martial law).
The court ordered pre-trial detention without the right to post bail.
The detainee faces up to 12 years of imprisonment.
