The Russian special unit “Varyag”, which is part of the reserve of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been tasked with striking civilian gas stations, including in the Kherson region.
This was reported during the telethon broadcast by the spokesman of the Southern Defense Forces, Vladyslav Voloshyn.
According to him, civilian gas stations are coming under attack in Kherson, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
“This is the terrorist nature of the enemy, because soldiers usually do not refuel at such gas stations, so this is an attempt to influence the local population”, – Voloshyn said.
According to the spokesman, the 50th special purpose brigade “Varyag”, which specializes in strikes deep into Ukrainian defenses, is involved in these attacks.
“This unit is primarily geared towards middle strike – strikes deep into our defenses. It is fairly active in the south, in particular on the Prydniprovskyi and Zaporizhzhia directions. One can say that part of those strikes on gas stations are the work of these “Varyags”.
Voloshyn also said that the unit is equipped with new experimental unmanned aerial vehicles, including fiber-optic drones with a flight range of up to 30 kilometers, which allows attacking civilian infrastructure far from the front line.
Recall, the Russians regularly attack gas stations in the Kherson region.
