Russia lost a satellite through which propaganda was broadcast to the occupied part of the Kherson region.
This was reported by Russian media.
Russia lost the satellite “Express-AT1”, which provided satellite broadcasting for a number of Russian TV channels, in particular the propagandist package “Russian World”, which was broadcast to the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, including the left bank of the Kherson region.
Through this satellite broadcast the operators “NTV-Plus”, “Tricolor” and “Russian World”. The latter was created in 2022 by structures of the pro-Kremlin “All-Russian People’s Front” specifically to spread Russian television in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
Russian operator “Tricolor” has already found a temporary solution — it began broadcasting from the foreign satellite ABS-2A and urged subscribers to retune their antennas.
By contrast, “Russian World” cannot use foreign satellites due to sanctions. The company said the service is temporarily unavailable and advised viewers to use digital terrestrial television.
The new Russian satellite “Express-AT3”, which is supposed to replace the lost one, is planned to be launched no earlier than 2030. Although occupation media claim that the broadcasting of “Russian World” will be restored within a month.
Note that before the full-scale invasion Ukrainian satellite television operators were operating in the Kherson region. Last year Russian authorities banned the use of satellite dishes tuned to European satellites. Since then they began to install “Russian World” antennas there.
