The parents of police captain Valeriy Togarenko, who died during a Russian shelling of Kherson in the autumn of 2025, were presented with a state award — the President of Ukraine’s distinction “For the Defense of Ukraine” (posthumously).
This was reported by the Kherson Oblast police.
Valeriy Togarenko was killed on 28 September 2025 while carrying out his official duties at a checkpoint. The 40-year-old officer came under heavy shelling by Russian forces.
Valeriy Togarenko was born in Kherson. He began his service in law enforcement in August 2002 as a cadet at the Kherson Law Institute.
Recall that in April this year, as a result of a Russian drone attack in Kherson police captain Vitaliy Kukharchuk was killed.
