The deputy head of the regime and supervision department of the Russian SIZO No. 2 in temporarily occupied Simferopol has been notified in absentia of suspicion of violating the laws and customs of war.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
According to the investigation, he used physical violence and psychological pressure against civilians.
One of the victims was a resident of Kherson. In December 2022, while on a walk he found a SIM card and took it with him. SIZO staff later found the card among his belongings.
By the official’s order, the man was taken out of the cell to a storeroom on the third floor of the detention facility, which inmates called “baul”. There was no video surveillance there. The man was forced to face the wall, lower his head and press his hands, palms against the wall, after which the official, according to the investigation, began to beat him with his hands on the torso and with his feet on the lower extremities.
The suspect’s actions were classified under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – as inhumane treatment of a civilian and a violation of the laws and customs of war.
Earlier it was reported that in the Kherson region in absentia charges were brought against a 33-year-old commander of the reconnaissance platoon of the 247th Air Assault Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces.
