The new “peace plan” of U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war in Ukraine envisages a possible return to Ukraine of part of the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region, but only in exchange for significant concessions by Kyiv.
This is reported by the publication Axios, citing American and Ukrainian officials.
According to Axios sources, the current front lines in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions are proposed to be effectively frozen. Russia is allegedly ready to return certain areas, but this is supposed to be the subject of separate negotiations between the parties.
At the same time, a key condition of the plan is that the U.S. and a number of other countries would have to recognize Crimea and Donbas as lawful territory of Russia. Ukraine would not be obliged to such recognition, however it would be the one to make territorial concessions and agree to limits on the size and armament of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in exchange for American security guarantees.
As European Pravda reports, the new U.S. “peace plan” contains 28 points regarding the end of the war in Ukraine. The plan was developed, among others, by U.S. envoy Steven Witkoff and the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev.
The White House has expressed optimistic hopes of agreeing on a framework for ending the war in Ukraine by the end of November.
Later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is ready to cooperate with the United States in achieving peace amid media reports about the “peace plans” proposed to Kyiv.
