Russia may be forced to use the Kerch Bridge more actively to transport military cargo and fuel amid depletion of reserves and problems with ferry logistics. At the same time, a land route that passes through the temporarily occupied Kherson region is of key importance for supplying the occupying forces.
This was said on the telethon by the spokesperson of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Dmytro Pletenchuk.
According to him, logistical routes through the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson, together with the route in the Zaporizhzhia direction, form the backbone of supply for the Russian grouping in southern Ukraine, and also provide a link to occupied Crimea.
He noted that currently there are significant restrictions on the transport of dangerous goods on the Kerch Bridge, introduced by the Russian authorities after Ukrainian attacks. At the same time, in the event of a critical shortage of resources, these restrictions may be lifted.
“I think we will see the moment that at some point, when they are really pressed, they will probably be forced to start transporting dangerous cargo over the bridge,” — Pletenchuk said.
Recall that at the end of May the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a series of strikes on equipment of the occupying forces in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson. In particular, the land corridor to Crimea came under attack.
In connection with this, the occupation governor Volodymyr Saldo signed a decree temporarily restricting the movement of freight transport along the R-280 “Novorossiya” route.
In addition, Saldo said that on the left bank of the Kherson region they will create a “volunteer battalion” BARS “Kherson”, which is to counter Ukrainian drones.
