The occupation election commission of Kherson Oblast announced preparations for elections of deputies to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territory.
This is reported by Kremlin-controlled media.
According to the head of the illegal “electoral commission” Marina Zakharova, the occupation administration is currently inspecting premises to house precinct commissions. They, it is claimed, must comply with “technical and anti-terrorist requirements.”
In addition, the occupiers are training members of the precinct commissions and preparing the regulatory framework for holding the elections.
It is asserted that the active phase of preparations is planned to begin after a decree by the President of the Russian Federation on holding the elections and a decision by the Central Election Commission of Russia.
Note, from May 25 to 31, 2026 the pro-government Russian party “United Russia” plans to hold primaries (preliminary intra-party elections in which a single candidate from the political force is chosen to participate in the main elections, – МОСТ) in occupied Kherson. Voting in the by-elections will take place in electronic format – it will choose the party candidate who will run for the Russian State Duma.
The parliamentary elections in Russia are scheduled for September 20 this year.
In total, according to the “United Russia” website, there are 16 such candidates. 11 of them want in the future to run in single-mandate constituency No.187, 5 – to get onto the “United Russia” lists.
