On the left bank of Kherson Oblast, the occupiers report a rapid shallowing and degradation of small rivers. The main causes of the decline in water resources are named as the consequences of hostilities, the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant and climate change.
Pro-Russian media report this.
According to the occupiers’ Ministry of Ecology, the region’s river system, which includes the Dnieper and 19 small rivers, is in critical condition. Currently there is access to only six small watercourses, the length of which does not exceed 15 kilometers, yet even in these sections a persistent reduction in water flow is observed.
Among the key factors of degradation, the illegitimate ministry cites the Russians’ demolition of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, contamination of rivers with explosives and the destruction of bridges over the Dnieper, Konka, Koshova and Inhulets.
Previously we wrote that Russia allocated 23 million rubles for cleaning rivers and banks in the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson region that it itself destroyed.
